PURPOSE: To decrease the number of parts and to reduce the cost and size of a light source device by forming a part of a base plate of a transparent resin. CONSTITUTION: A resin base plate 1 is used for a laser chip 2 and its material is a synthetic resin which is transparent and is different from the material of conventional semiconductor laser. Electrodes, etc., are first installed on the resin base plate 1 and thereafter, the laser chip 2 is fixed to the resin base plate 1 by means of solder in order to mount the chip onto the base plate. Metallic terminals 3 are built into the resin base plate 1 by mold-insert forming and play the role of conductive terminals and are further formed by pulling bonding wires 5 in such a manner that the laser chip 2 can be energized. The light source device is so constituted that the laser beams emitted to the rear surface side among the laser beams emitted from the laser chip 2, i.e., the laser beams emitted to the resin base plate 1 side are photodetected by a photodiode 4 through the transparent resin base plate 1, thereby, the light quantity is monitored and detected.
